The third trimester is one of the most exciting times in your pregnancy. This is the part where you’re counting down to the single weeks and days before your baby arrives, but is also, unfortunately, one of the most uncomfortable times.
We don’t say it’s THE most uncomfortable time because there’s nothing more uncomfortable than throwing up every morning, but in your last trimester you’re dealing with a bump full of baby and fluid. You may be dealing with swollen ankles and a sore back and sore hips and for mums to be, it can bring a lot of aches and pains. If you want to get comfortable while you’re pregnant then you need the tips that will actually work for you and that’s knowing the below.
- Upgrade your wardrobe. When you get a third trimester, there’s no getting away with it. Now you’re pregnant and there is a baby on the way, which means that you need to swap over your genes for some maternity pants and switch over the trainers you’ve been wearing to some sandals. Investing in clothing that is loose and cool and comfortable is so important if you want to remain comfortable. You could still be high fashion if you want to be, but there’s nothing wrong with swapping denim for pants. You want to make sure you can move easily so that your burgeoning bump can continue to grow and you can get from A to B without feeling chafing.
- Invest in a good pregnancy pillow. You can have as many pillows as you like on your bed, but pregnancy pillows are the game changer. If you’re uncomfortable in your third trimester, this is one piece of bedding that can support your figure so you get much needed sleep through the night. Choose a U-shaped cushion that can support your belly and go between your knees. This will allow you to keep your hips aligned as you sleep and support your spine.
- Get out your yoga ball. An exercise ball is so comfortable compared to a chair. Yes, there’s no back to it, but an exercise ball is going to help you to improve your posture and release pressure on your bump and your hips. This can really help with those aches and pains. And as you move into the third trimester, you can gently move your hips in a figure of eight backwards and forwards to keep your lower half mobile and help the baby to move down.
- Get yourself a belly band to avoid discomfort. When you’re pregnant in your third trimester, all the weight that has moved forward can be held by a belly band. This redistributes the baby weight more evenly across your abdomen, and it relieves their pull you might feel on your lower back. This will also help your posture. If you’re looking to decrease the pressure on your bladder, this is one of the best ways to do it.
- Don’t forget to stretch. In your third trimester, it’s more important than ever to stretch your body properly. Keeping yourself supple and movable is so important if you want to keep your body from those aches and pains.
