We celebrated Archer’s 5th birthday on the weekend.  I decided to keep it really simple this year.  I didn’t even make the cupcakes.  These cupcakes are from The Cupcake Queens and would have to be my favourite cupcakes.

The idea for the balloon cake toppers came from DIY Studio.  It was a quick, simple craft project that I knew Archer would love.

You don’t really need much to get started.

  • Bunnings paint chips or cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Sticky Tape of double sided tape
  • Paper Clips
  • Pencil

Trace a balloon shape onto your paint chip using a pencil.  Cut the shape out twice, one for the back and one for the front.  Open up a paper clip and lay it in place.  Using double sided tape or sticky tape, stick the paper clip inside the two sides of the cut out balloon.  Stick it down in place.  I used dots to decorate some of my balloons.  The dots are from Blank Goods.

Make sure you take the topper out of the cupcake before you eating as the paper clip can be quite sharp once it has been opened up.

Have fun with decorating your balloons with dots, stripes, letters and shapes.
