In your life, whether you like it or not, you’re going to have to deal with some pretty stressful situations. It would be wonderful if that wasn’t the case but there’s not much that you can do about it. By far one of the most stressful things that you’ll ever do in your life is, ironically, also one of the most exciting: moving house. Few things come with as much pressure, business and potentially confusing as moving home. The key to dealing with it and making sure that you don’t end up pulling your hair out is to do two simple things: plan ahead and be flexible. To give you a better idea of what that means, here are a few ways that you can make your move a little bit less of a nightmare.

Plan everything

Now when I say everything, I mean everything! Go through your home room by room and figure out exactly how many boxes you’ll need, how much space that will take up in a van, what things are fragile and what things can just be chucked in. These kinds of things might seem obvious, but it’s all too easy to forget about them amidst all of the stress and chaos of moving. You should also create a schedule for your packing and moving. That way you’re never left in a position where you don’t know what to do next. By creating a schedule, you’re able to know which rooms to do in what order.

Start early

One of the biggest mistakes that a lot of people make is that they put off dealing with things like packing for far too long and end up getting swallowed up by the sheer amount of stuff they have to do at the last minute. It’s never too early to get started on the packing. Think about which things you use every day and what you can actually live without, at least for a little while. If you don’t feel like being surrounded by boxes all the time, then there are places like Canning Vale Storage Units where you can keep your boxes tucked away so that you’re not constantly tripping over them. The other benefit to that is that it gives you a much greater sense of what you have left when you’re not constantly surrounded by stuff.

Be ready for something to go wrong

With any luck, your move will go off without a hitch and you’ll be safe and sound in your new home in no time. But the one way that you can guarantee that something will go wrong is to be unprepared for it. Make sure that you’re in a position to be as flexible as possible in the event that something goes wrong. Perhaps the van will be late, or you will have to take more trips that you thought you did. No matter what it is the worst thing that you can do is to treat it like the end of the world. Just keep calm and think about things logically. As long as you can keep a cool head then you’ll be able to work around any problems that might crop up.
