Stuff – it’s everywhere. And if you’re not careful, it can really creep up on you. Over the years, you accumulate so much junk that you don’t have space for it all. Eventually, your home becomes cluttered, and you can barely move.

There are a couple of reasons why this happens. The first has to do with our consumer culture. People continually buy new things just because they can. It’s fun to go shopping and think about what would look great in your wardrobe, kitchen, or living room.

The second reason is that we’re not particularly good at getting rid of the stuff that we don’t need anymore. We fear that we will chuck it and suddenly realize that we shouldn’t have gotten rid of it in the first place.

Have you got too much stuff in your house? Take a look at these decluttering tips:

Create A One-In-One-Out

Instead of just adding your purchases to your current pile of stuff, try adopting a “one-in-one-out” policy.

You can probably guess the way this works. As soon as a new item comes into your possession, you get rid of an equivalent older item. So, for instance, if you buy a new piece of furniture, you don’t just add it to your existing collection. Instead, you remove another item to free up space.

You can apply the same principle to your wardrobe. If you buy a new item of clothing, you get rid of an old one, especially if it doesn’t fit you anymore!

Get Rid Of Your Bulky Items

Sometimes you’ll have a large, bulky dining room table sitting in your apartment that you never use. What’s the point of it? There is no point!

The only issue is getting rid of it, but unwanted furniture removal companies can do that for you. All you do is ring them up and tell them that you have furniture requiring collection. Usually, they’ll dispose of it for you, either selling it or sending it for safe recycling.

Get Rid Of Your Duplicates

Do you really need thirty plates in your cupboard? When was the last time you used them altogether? Probably a long, long time ago.

Getting rid of duplicates is surprisingly simple. Plus, you often discover just how many copies of the same item you have! Eventually, the number becomes ridiculous!

Perform an audit. See what you need and what you don’t. Make it happen!

Get Rid Of Your Papers

Do you have a lot of papers lying around your home? If so, you’re not alone. It’s something that happens more often than you might think.

Getting rid of your papers, however, is surprisingly simple with modern technology. You can either move over to digital options. Or you can get a scanner and upload all your documents to the cloud, allowing you to shred and dispose of the real thing.

Use Your Wall Space

Finally, look for opportunities to use your wall space. Think about what you could mount onto your walls instead of storing it at ground level.
