Often it’s the hidden places in your home that get the most neglected but make the most difference. It’s the corners and hidden spaces in your home that probably need the most attention and get missed time and time again. Picture how much better you would feel if you took the time to make the changes you need to and can come back to a home that feels refreshed and new.
Yes, that’s right even taking the time to learn more about how to dress your windows or how to use home storage correctly, can make a world of difference to your home.
So, let’s have a look at some of the spaces you should be concentrating on below:
Look At Your Carpets
Most people first take action with their walls and furnishing to try and get the biggest impact. However, you need to think about the spaces in your home that get used the most and the ones that may need a little extra care. Your carpets are one of the most used parts of your home, and therefore, it would make sense that they may need to have a little more care taken over them.
Your floors collect more than just dirt, they also have dust and allergens that can wreak havoc on your health, especially if you have allergies and sensitive skin. Carpets, although a great option for flooring can get dirty extremely quickly. You get dirt, stains, and odors that all get trapped on carpets so, you need to take the time to clean them often.
You can make a difference to your living space, just by staying on top of cleaning your carpets. You can either get the professionals in or do it yourself. It might be best to get a professional cleaning done the first time and then to keep on top of the cleaning yourself.
Not only will your carpets last longer, but your home will feel clean, refreshed, and inviting.
Look At Your Furniture
This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to replace your furniture. If you are trying to save money, you will want to avoid this as much as you can. Just like your carpets, furniture can get dust, mites, allergens, dirt, and odors. This means they need to be cleaned. Maybe not as often as your carpets, but your home will benefit from having them cleared each season. Some furniture will enable you to take off the covers and wash them in your washer. If you can do this, you may be surprised by how much of a difference it can make.
If you are thinking about getting new furniture, you might first want to think about refurnishing your old furniture and giving it another few years. Not only will it will make your home feel different but it will also help you to save some money.
Add In Extra Storage
When you want to make your home feel less cluttered and tidy you need to make sure you have great storage options. If your home is lacking in storage, now is the time to think about adding some more options. Always have shoes lying around? Is your coat cupboard a disaster? Think about adding in some clever storage options and making it easier to find a home for all your belongings.
If you don’t already have a dedicated home for something, it’s time for you to find one. This is more than just shoving it in a drawer or cupboard somewhere. This can cause even more problems down the line. Think about adding things like:
- Drawer organizers
- Haning storage on the back of doors
- Under stairs storage
- Bathroom storage
- Under sink storage
- Shoe/coat rack in the hallway
When you start to organize your home and add in more storage options you will soon be living in a more clutter-free and peaceful environment. It will also be a healthier environment for your mind. A clear mind is a happy mind.
Look At Your Windows
There are a few ways you can make your home feel better by looking after your windows. Of course, there is the standard cleaning of the windows both inside and out but there are also other ways your windows can make a difference to your home.
Opening your curtains and blinds is good for your health, however, you may notice that at times dust can clingy to your curtains and blinds, making your home feel dirty and unhealthy. Rather than stopping opening your windows instead, you should address the issues and sort out your blinds and curtains.
Take your curtains down once a month and give them a wash in your washing machine, and take this time to wipe down your blinds to make sure there is no dust or grime. When you do this you can make sure there are no signs of mold or draughts coming from the windows.
You may have noticed that over time your blinds and curtains can fade from having the sun shining on them. This can be minimized when you take the time and make the effort to clean them regularly. Put it a part of your monthly cleaning routine in the next year and see how much of a difference it makes to your home.
As you can see there are many areas of your home that you may not think about making a difference. Give this list a go and see how much of a difference it really can make. Let us know how you get in the comments below.
